Learning Tools
At fhionQ, one of our core service areas is climate, sustainability and ESG capacity development. To reinforce learning, we use a suite of proprietary games. These games translate training concepts into applied scenarios, giving participants the opportunity to engage with climate knowledge in ways that deepen understanding and improve retention.
Ternan

Ternan is a card game built to help participants understand how climate risks translate into real-world business and financial impacts. Each card presents a real-world business scenario shaped by a climate-related event. Working in groups, participants should practice identifying the type and source of climate risk, understanding how it affects the business, and tracing the risk through to its financial implications.
Play the GameDawson

Dawson is a card game built to help participants practice spotting climate-driven opportunities. Each card presents a scenario set in Velisa, a virtual country built to mirror real world climate and business dynamics, shaped by a climate event, policy shift, or market change. Working in groups, participants will brainstorm what opportunities the scenario could create, then compare their ideas against a curated list of real possibilities.
Play the GameHarcourt

Harcourt shows players that risk does not depend on the hazard alone. Risk comes from three things together: how severe the event is (hazard), whether someone is in its path (exposure), and how well they can cope (vulnerability). The same storm can be a catastrophe for one business and harmless to another, and reducing exposure or vulnerability lowers the risk even when the hazard stays the same.
Play the GameLiffey

Liffey is an NGFS Climate Scenarios Game that helps people in the financial sector learn the scenarios that central banks and supervisors use to test climate risk. Teams read short news reports from the future, set in real places across Africa, and work out which of the seven NGFS scenarios they belong to. They are also presented with the different NGFS scenarios and asked to pick the news report that belongs in each one, and with pairs of futures that look alike, which they must tell apart.
